Couple walking on Shoreline Park in Santa Barbara

How to Have the Best Day at Shoreline Park in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, California is known for its gorgeous coastline. For visitors looking to spend some time by the sea, Shoreline Park is an ideal destination. This 14-acre park sits on a coastal bluff and offers sweeping views of the coast, the city, and the Santa Ynez Mountains. Plan a day trip here and enjoy everything from walking and picnicking to whale watching and tide-pooling. It’s the perfect place to relax amongst nature! Here are some of the things you’ll see at Shoreline Park in Santa Barbara.

Things To Do

Shoreline Park is a long, narrow strip of land that faces the Pacific Ocean. It’s one of the area’s most popular parks and includes a playground, picnic area, Japanese garden, and a whale watching telescope. Gray Whales may be observed here during their migration months, along with a variety of marine mammals like dolphins and seals. Feel free to explore the park’s walking paths or claim a bench overlooking the cliffs and take in the view.

Whether you’re traveling with the whole family or as a couple, Shoreline Park Beach has something for everyone. Walk through the Torii Gate in the center of the park and follow a staircase to the sand below. With warm breezes and beautiful views, this beach is ideal for sunset strolls, seashell hunting, and romantic picnics. There’s even a restroom for your convenience.

Nearby Beaches

If you want to visit some other local hotspots, you’re in luck! Leadbetter Beach and Arroyo Burro Beach (Hendry’s Beach) are accessible to the east and west. Leadbetter Beach is probably Santa Barbara’s most popular beach and is a favorite spot for walkers, sunbathers, and families. Hendry’s is another must-see, bringing surfers to its waters and dog lovers to off-leash areas. Read our blog about the best beaches in Santa Barbara for details.

Shoreline Park has two parking areas, one at each end of the park. To get there, head west on Cabrillo Boulevard from the Santa Barbara Waterfront and look for the park on the left after the road turns into Shoreline Drive. It’s open from sunrise to 10 p.m.
